Just a quick one

Does anybody find that coffee produces fizzing joints and sometimes painful joints or is it me imagining things?

Please all tell me it isn't the coffee as I love a Costa Cappuccino!

I could be your Control patient. I drink no coffee at all but it doesn't prevent me getting symptoms! :(

Hexham - Northumberland - Loads of spectacular walks - all I need now are the joints to go with them! :)

Sorry, Angie,
I nearly live on coffee and apart from the diuretic effect and no more than 3 large cups ( mugs ) per
mealtime I haven't seen any effects. I don't drink tea. Well if the Queen invited me I might from
courtesy only. Hope you get some different answers Anne

Do you take MXT? There is some thought that caffeine reduces the effectiveness of MXT but there doesn't seem to be conclusive evidence. http://www.nras.org.uk/a...ne_consumption_etc.aspx
It might explain more painful joints.

Hi angie

I feel really ill on coffee, makes me feel sick and heady then it hits my joints with more pain. Maybe worth trying to cut it out for a few weeks and see whether you see any improvement.

Best wishes

So quite inconclusive, don't take MTX so OK there.

I shall monitor myself, wouldn't be surprised if overloading on caffeine would make a person a bit fizzy. I think I will do the usual and keep my intake in moderation. No more extra shots 'just in case'.

Thanks for your replies.

Hi Angie

I find that if I have too many dairy products my joints get worse, so I alternate cow's milk with soya and rice milk (I make sure I get enough calcium as I also have osteopenia). Maybe it's not the coffee in your cappuccino that's causing your problems, but the milk!

I gave up coffee a couple of years ago for 6 months and it made not one jot of difference, same with tomoatoes, red peppers, aubergines and can't remember what else. Potoatoes are the only things I haven't managed to try stopping but nothing made any difference in the slightest. However we are all different and for some it works.
Best wishes

Thanks All

I tried stopping tomatoes as well after reading something. I loved it when I saw that alcohol was proved to be beneficial for RAers. Although in moderation of course.

Think I've established most of the things that will cause flare ups in me. Unfortunately was on a slippery slope with the coffee getting stronger and stronger and more frequent, trying to combat the fatigue I guess, so am now returning to a more sensible level. Back to tea, redbush, squash and water with the occasional coffee.

Cheers ma dears!
